Octomom Nadya Suleman: My Porn Video Felt "Liberating" and "Empowering"
Nadya Suleman will do just about anything to make a buck. The controversial mother of 14 — who first made headlines when she welcomed octuplets in January 2009 — explains how her life has changed in the past four years in the March 19 episode of OWN’s Oprah: Where Are They Now?
During the interview, the 37-year-old defends her decision to participate in the X-rated film Octomom Home Alone, which was released in the summer of 2012. “Years after I had the babies — the octuplets — my manager and I collaborated together on doing an independent, um, self-pleasure video. I did it, obviously, to provide for my family,” Suleman says. “I don’t regret it. I actually . . . Shockingly enough, it became one of the most liberating and empowering things I had ever done.”
After shooting her pornographic film, Suleman danced at strip clubs on several occasions. In October 2012, she checked into L.A.’s Chapman House Treatment Center to seek treatment for anxiety, exhaustion and stress.
“I became beyond, beyond exhausted! I can’t tell you how exhausted. . . I actually was starting to crack,” Suleman recalls. “And then it got worse, the panic. All these panic attacks! So I asked for help. I call it a life rehab. I went to a treatment program for 30 days. There was a team of doctors and psychologists assessing me and diagnosing me, and I was diagnosed with, um, post-traumatic stress disorder, um, severe post-traumatic stress.”
