Red Hot Chili Peppers Lead Singer Anthony Kiedis Hospitalized, Show Canceled

No one was more disappointed than the Red Hot Chili Peppers when it was announced on Saturday, May 14, that they would have to pull the plug on their headlining slot at KROQ’s annual Weenie Roast music festival because their lead singer, Anthony Kiedis, had been hospitalized.

“Anthony is on his way to the hospital right now and we’re unable to play this evening,” bassist Flea told the crowd as he and the two other members of the band — guitarist Josh Klinghoffer and drummer Chad Smith — took the stage. “We are devastated about it. We’re really sad. We love you so much. We live to rock.… But unfortunately there’s a medical thing that happened and he needed to deal with it.”

According to Billboard, a rep for Los Angeles radio station KROQ said that Kiedis, 53, was suffering from extreme stomach pain. The exact problem is unknown at this time.

Smith, 54, tweeted to fans shortly afterward, urging fans to send “love and a speedy recovery to my brother Anthony.”

Weezer ended up closing out the show, which also featured Empire of the Sun, Garbage, the Lumineers, Fitz and the Tantrums, Blink-182 and Panic! at the Disco.

The band’s next scheduled concert is Tuesday, May 17, in Burbank, California, according to the band’s official website.
